S, Gregorio in <\/b>Salento <\/b>is the <\/span>marina of Pat\u00f9<\/b>, a small jewel a few kilometres from <\/span>Santa Maria di <\/b>Leuca<\/b> on the <\/span>Ionian coast of Salento<\/b>. Formerly the port of ancient Vereto, the ancient moorings can still be seen today. With an uncontaminated sea, it is easy to feel good in the water, nothing to envy to faraway exotic places.<\/span><\/p>\n

Marina of San Gregorio, Apulia<\/b><\/h2>\n

It is one of the few places where one can admire <\/span>sunrises and sunsets<\/b> in all their <\/span>poetry <\/b>crossed by the entire palette of <\/span>colours<\/b>, a miracle that only the<\/span> south of Salento <\/b>can provide. It has a <\/span>small beach<\/b> where you can sunbathe near the Moro bar, a landmark of the marina.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving a few hundred metres southwards, we find the <\/span>Scogli Piatti<\/b>, sea rock formations polished by the sea where, in addition to bathing, one can sunbathe in privacy given the difficulty of access. There is no shortage of <\/span>refreshment points <\/b>scattered here and there throughout the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

For those wishing to stay there, there are many holiday home solutions at very reasonable prices by contacting local agencies. With a little imagination, on nights when the moon is full, one can still hear the <\/span>songs <\/b>of Greek and Phoenician <\/span>sailors<\/b>, which, as still happens today when thinking of a loved one, brings a furtive tear to the eye.<\/span><\/p>\n

The history of Pat\u00f9<\/b><\/h2>\n

A town in the <\/span>Lower Salento<\/b> a few kilometres from <\/span>Santa Maria di Leuca<\/b>, <\/span>Pat\u00f9 <\/b>owes its name to the Greek word Pathos, pain in memory of the destruction of the town of Vereto, an <\/span>important Messapian centre <\/b>destroyed by the Saracens in the ninth century AD. Pat\u00f9 was then built nearby using what was left of the ancient Vereto.<\/span><\/p>\n

Religious monuments in Pat\u00f9<\/b><\/h3>\n

Mother Church of St Michael Archangel<\/b> built in 1564. Under the rose window of the entrance portal, there is an inscription in Latin (TEMIBILIS EST LOCUS ISTE) considered to be of esoteric origin.<\/span><\/p>\n
