A hypothesis that seems to be confirmed by the municipal coat of arms, which depicts a beehive on the trunk of a tree surrounded by bees, and honey, in Melendugnese dialect is called &#8220;apples&#8221;.<br \/>\nIn fact, Melendugno is also known as &#8220;<em>the town of honey<\/em>&#8220;, being the <strong>first Apulian municipality to join the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cittadelmiele.it\/melendugno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">network of territories that give origin and identity to Italian honeys<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>How to get to Melendugno?<\/h2>\n<p>To <strong>move around Salento<\/strong> and <strong>get to Melendugno<\/strong>, in particular, we always recommend <strong>hiring a car,<\/strong> since it is the most comfortable and fastest way.<br \/>\nTo <strong>get to Melendugno by car from Lecce<\/strong> just take the SP1 towards Vernole and continue until Melendugno. The road is quite smooth and simple.<br \/>\n<strong>How to reach Melendugno without a car?<\/strong> However, if you don&#8217;t have a car there are several <strong>buses from Lecce to Melendugno<\/strong>, just check the <strong><a href=\"https :\/\/www.fseonline.it\/s\/?language=it\">FSE lines<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>What to see in Melendugno?<\/h2>\n<p>If you are <strong> staying in Melendugno <\/strong> during your holidays, we recommend that you <strong> take a tour <\/strong>, even on foot, to find out more about this pretty town in the Salento hinterland. The <strong>main points of interest<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <strong>Church of Maria SS. Assunta<\/strong>: dating back to the 16th century, it has undergone various transformations and expansions over the years.
