Beaches in Gallipoli and surrounding areas

Beaches of Gallipoli: Lido Conchiglie, Rivabella and Padula Bianca

The crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea lap a varied coastline, including both sandy beaches and rugged cliffs. North of Gallipoli, the coast extends for about five kilometres, including the towns of Rivabella, Padula Bianca and Lido Conchiglie.

  • Rivabella boasts a long beach of fine sand, surrounded by dunes, Mediterranean scrub and a green pine forest.
  • Further north, Padula Bianca offers free beaches and bathing establishments, an ideal area for families thanks to the gently sloping seabed and clear waters.
  • At Lido Conchiglie, the coast becomes rocky but easily accessible, culminating in the Montagna Spaccata, a more rugged cliff, suitable for those who love diving.

In summer, these beaches could be very crowded, which is why we always recommend arriving in the early hours of the morning.

La Purità, with its 300 meters of sand with large granules that do not stick to the skin, offers a seabed that slopes gently, ideal for children. Here, despite the proximity to the port, the sea is crystal clear and comparable to the best beaches of Salento.

In the morning, the historic walls offer shelter from the sun until around midday, and access via a convenient pedestrian street makes it easy to visit. The beach has no beaches and is less crowded than Baia Verde, but being small it could easily get crowded.

The Sea of Purity is almost always calm, especially withwinds from the south and south-east. Finally, we advise you to don’t miss the spectacle of the sunset which offers plays of light and shadow on the water and the surrounding historic buildings.

Beach in Gallipoli: Baia Verde

By day, the Green Bay is a swimmer’s paradise with its long beaches, while from dusk to dawn it becomes the center of the summer nightlife thanks to the numerous beaches that transform into lively night clubs.

Located on the Ionian coast south of Gallipoli, it extends for approximately three kilometers from Lido San Giovanni to the Pizzo bay. The beach, with fine white sand and few rocks, is reflected in a crystalline sea with emerald reflections, a characteristic that gives the bay its name. The shallow, sandy seabed is ideal for children, but the numerous trendy beaches also attract many young people.

The sea here is generally calm, especially with the tramontane, while winds from the south and south-west can agitate the waters.

The Green Bay is located next to the <ahref=”https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parco_naturale_regionale_Isola_di_Sant’Andrea_e_litorale_di_Punta_Pizzo” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Regional natural park Punta Pizzo-Isola di Sant’Andrea, where lush greenery coexists with coastal dunes. This is definitely one of the busiest beaches in Salento, with free areas and numerous beach establishments offering various services during the day, happy hour and live music in the evening.

Gallipoli beach: Punta della Suina and Punta Pizzo

Another suggestive area of the Gallipoli sea is the one that extends for approximately four kilometers from Li Foggi to Punta del Pizzo. A mix of sandy beaches and rocks lapped by Caribbean waters are the perfect refuge for those seeking comfort, but also for those who want to live a wilder experience. At Punta della Suina, two small bays of light sand are separated by the Tondo rock. Continuing towards Punta Pizzo, however, the rocks give way to a long sandy beach, followed by low and flat rocks, one of the most beautiful beaches in Gallipoli.

The whole area is characterized by crystal clear waters, with emerald and turquoise reflections, which offer spectacular views from the Island of Sant’Andrea to the Torre del Pizzo.
Protected from the winds, the coast remains calm with the sirocco and agitated with the north wind.
