Torre Vado in Apulia
Torre Vado takes its name from its beautiful 16th-century tower, built by the Spaniards, led by Emperor Charles V, to defend the area from Saracen pirate raids. The tower, still in excellent condition today, overlooks the colourful harbour where fishermen and yachtsmen enjoy the unspoilt sea.
Torre Vado is now one of the most popular tourist resorts in the lower Salento, and despite its small size, it has everything at hand. Its seafront promenade, thanks to the evening market, gives rise to moments of multi-ethnic aggregation and becomes a pleasant place to spend time. Like the rest of Salento, Torre Vado upholds the traditions of Salento cuisine, characterised by the typical products this magnificent land offers.
Walking along the seafront towards the west, where the white beaches of Pescoluse and the Maldives of Salento border, we come across a unique pearl, the Sorgenti. Here, among low, flat rocks, open pools of natural fresh water seep from underground at a temperature of around ten degrees. Diving into these clear, cool waters is cure-all for the body, as it tones up and improves blood circulation.
