Salento in Bus: how to get around Salento without a car

While retaining that wild charm that makes it so spectacular, today Salento can boast numerous amenities and options for exploring far and wide. Leaving aside private transport, which obviously allows greater convenience, the alternatives offered today by public transport companies aim to provide a capillary service, capable of connecting the major points of interest in this wonderful land.

The simplest and most flexible option is, without a doubt, the bus, which makes it possible to move from one city to another and visit the most beautiful beaches in Salento. In this respect, Salento in Bus was created: a summer public transport system implemented by the province of Lecce, which makes it easy to move around Salento, even without a car.

Every year the mobility programme is updated by adding new routes, precisely to offer tourists, or locals who do not have the possibility of travelling by car, the most complete service possible at a cost that is accessible to all.

This year, in fact, 4new routes have been added to the 9 already existing ones, each marked by a specific colour.

Salento in Bus 2023: useful information about the service [updated].

Salento in Bus is a service provided by the STP company, which operates in the province of Lecce. Unfortunately, the service is only active during the summer months, precisely from June 18th to September 11th, but we hope that they will be able to increase the duration of the service to ensure easy travel even during the low season.

With the increase in tourist flows in Salento and the change in tourist routes, it is now possible to reach many of those destinations that once remained unexplored by bus, allowing greater knowledge and promotion of the area.
There are 13 main lines connecting the city of Lecce, the hinterland and the seaside resorts, supplemented by another 15 secondary lines. By the way, this year the routes of some lines heading to centres of special interest have been intensified, like the connection between Lecce and Casalabate, with transit at Cerrate, where the famous Abbey, a FAI heritage site, is located.

To travel safely to popular places such as Gallipoli, Otranto, Lecce, Leuca, Porto Cesareo, Torre dell’Orso or Torre San Giovanni, bus in Salento can be very useful.
In addition to this, there is a shuttle bus that connects Lecce station terminal, from where many of the Salento in Bus routes depart, with Brindisi airport, the main airport for getting to Salento.
