How to get to Torre Mozza
If you are travelling by car you will have no problem reaching Torre Mozza, just take the Lecce-Gallipoli state road and then continue on the Gallipoli – S. M. Leuca (SS. 274) following the signs. If, on the other hand, you don’t have the possibility to travel around Salento by car, there are no direct connections from Lecce to Torre Mozza, but you can still get to nearby towns by bus or train.
To get to Torre Mozza by train you have to take the Presicce-Acquarica line and from there take a taxi, in a few minutes you will have reached your destination. I suggest you, however, to check the bus route, as there may be an intermediate stop right at Torre Mozza. Check the website for more information on Salento in Bus routes and timetables.
Torre Mozza in Apulia
The locality takes its name from the tower, erected at the behest of King Charles V in the 16th century, with the function of sighting and defending the Salento coast from attacks by Saracen pirates. This was not its only function, however, as during World War II it was used by soldiers as a machine-gun emplacement. At the time it was built, in 1565, it was called the tower of the Rivers, but shortly after the work was completed it collapsed and was later rebuilt. It has also suffered several collapses over the centuries that is why it is called Mozza Tower (mozza meaning “cut off”).
